A deep, bronzed skin, acquired by sun tanning is very popular today. Not only that, many people enjoy tanning. One only has to go to the local beach to see dozens of people lying in the sun, trying to get that perfect tan.

The sun’s ultraviolet rays have come to light as the most dangerous enemy for skin aging. The development of wrinkles, age spots and other skin problems like cancer has been reported is closely correlated to the amount of sun exposure one comes into contact with.

With summer time fast approaching many people are wanting to darken their pale, pasty skin and create the healthy bronze color that makes them look really great. The thing about getting the skin you want, is to be sure that you follow some very important tips for safe tanning, so that you protect your skin from being damaged during the tanning process.

UV sun protection products have been hot discussion item over the past few years as consumer protection bodies have introduced measures to ensure that information regarding sun screens and sun blocks are clarified.

There are two types of UV that harm your skin:

1. UVA - damages the inner layers of the skin and causes wrinkles and lines, and skin cancer.

2. UVB - the most damaging radiation, burns the skin and damages the skin cell DNA, resulting in long term skin disease .

There are ways to counter-act Ultra-Violet Rays. The most common form of protection and probably the best source is Sun block Lotions. SPF or Sun Protection Factor is the measurement system used measure the length of time a product (Sun Block) protects delicate skin against bad or severe sun exposure.

Here are a few tips for you to keep in mind to save your skin from the sun’s harm.

1. Wear protective clothing’s like hats, long sleeved shirts and long pants.

2. Keep a handy sunscreen with you at all times. Lather on whenever you are exposed to the sun.

3. The UV rays are strongest from 11am – 4pm. Stay indoors during this period.

4. Use a Retin-A sun sensitizer to increase your skin’s defence to UV-damage.

5. Drink more water. This can help to keep your skin replenished and hydrated.

6. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. These can help to prevent free radicals caused by sun UVA.

7. Protect your skin with sufficient clothing during win sports such as skiing and climbing as UV radiation increases with altitude.

8. The SPF (sun protection factor) of your sunscreen should be no less than 8, but higher is better. Don’t forget to put sunscreen on evenly and apply it with extra care to places that are not normally exposed to sun.

9. Aloe Vera is an all time favorite for sun burn treatment. Not to mention the cool gel or spray is quite relieving.

The key to selecting an effective sun protection product is to understand the ingredients in the products, and how they work based on the activities you engage in.

Sun tanning can be enjoyable and beautifying, but you should be very careful. It's not worth damaging your skin or your health. Protect yourself and your skin with quality skin care products every day of the year.
