Eyebrow Waxing

By naturalremedies at 2009-01-21 05:28:20
Waxing is one of the oldest and most common methods for hair removal is waxing. Waxing can be done both with cold wax and hot wax and now with waxing kits available in the market, you can wax yourself at home.

Waxing your own eyebrows isn't a difficult or particularly painful task, and can save you some money in the process.

Bring a professional waxing kit from market - basically a jar or tub of wax which can be warmed up in boiling water and applied with a small applicator or spatula, and (usually muslin) removal strips.

First, you need to get a picture of the perfect shape you want to aim towards. A general rule of thumb is the brow should start straight above the inner corner of your eye, and end above the corner of your outer eye. The highest peak of the brow should be straight above the pupil of your eye.

For the bushy eyebrows some stylists suggest trying a waxing procedure every three to four weeks. They also help to shade the eyes from the sun. Regular maintenance will help to keep you looking well groomed. Proper eyebrow shaping can bring about a positive change in appearance. Waxing can trim the eyebrow hair with the group and grow after 2 or3 weeks. It can be difficult to do it yourself.

Warm up the wax to optimum temperature and use the small spatula to apply a thin layer of wax to the growth. Make sure that you only use a small amount of wax on the spatula to avoid the wax dripping when it is applied.

Use a wooden stick or toothpick to apply the warm wax. Always apply the wax in the direction of hair growth. For the brow area, that's towards the outer eye. On the bridge of the nose area, the growth area is straight up. Work in small sections.

Never wax above the eyebrow, only ever shape from below. Waxing from under the brow will widen your eyes and help to get the line even. As soon as it is applied remove the wax against the hair growth. Do this by gently smoothing a piece of cotton muslin over the waxed area.

Immediately, apply the muslin cloth and press for a few seconds so the wax can adhere. Using your thumb and forefinger with one hand, stretch the skin tight. With the other hand with a fast motion, rip the cloth in the opposite direction of hair growth. This will be opposite of the direction you applied the wax. Bridge of the nose area, you'll be pulling downwards. Eyebrow area will be pulling towards your nose. If a few stragglers are missed, pluck those with tweezers.

Any straggly hairs left over after waxing can be easily plucked out using a set of good tweezers. Apply a soothing balm like tea tree oil onto the area afterwards.

Next, cleanse your eyebrow with toner again. Apply some gentle lotion. The area may be pink for a few hours.

With some practice, it becomes very easy to do and takes very little time.
