Baby Acne is not very uncommon. The baby acne might be there at the time of birth, but sometimes it appears after few weeks. Most of the times on cheeks but sometimes on the forehead, chin and back.

Right before birth, the mother passes her hormones along to the baby through the placenta. This causes your baby’s skin to break out in acne when he or she is just a few weeks old. Baby acne mostly appears when the child is 4 to 6 weeks old.

Babies develop acne due to the stimulation of their sebaceous glands by the maternal hormones that manage to cross the placenta during the time of delivery and irritate the oil glands of the baby. These form bumps on the skin that often appear like pimples.


Baby acne is thankfully just a temporary skin condition. To take care of baby’s skin and help clear up the acne, wash the affected area several times a day with warm water and mild baby soap. If the acne appears in baby’s face, gently wipe it after each meal or spit-up. You should never use anything other than mild baby soap on your baby’s delicate skin unless your pediatrician instructs you otherwise. Baby’s skin is much to sensitive for any harsher cleaning solutions or acne remedies.

Baby acne can be scary to some parents who have never had a baby before or have not had a baby with acne. You will find that acne in babies looks a lot like a rash. You will see pimple like bumps with red skin around them. You shouldn't see your baby itching at them because they normally do not itch or irritate the baby in anyway.

What mothers should not do for baby acne

--Do not over wash the skin; it will irritate the skin even more. --Do not scrub the skin with soap as it is not caused by the dirt. --Do not apply creams and moisturizers as it will worsen the acne. --Don't experiment over the counter medicine on the baby's acne.

--Simply wash the baby's skin with a mid baby soap --Just do it once a day --Softly pat it dry --Be patient.

Skin specialists quite often will not prescribe for baby acne so the best advice is refrain from treating it. Baby acne is not something that necessitates the use of creams. Baby acne is not caused by dirt or unclean pores. Baby acne is untreatable. The medication for acne baby treatment is to delay taking any action until it vanishes of its own accord. Do not do anything beyond the normal everyday cleansing that baby requires.

It must be understood that a family history of acne does not necessarily mean that a baby will develop acne after birth. It is also a fact that a baby having the condition of acne need not be affected by the condition during adolescence.
